Lake Brazos, Hawkins, Palestine Block Party...On Saturday, the 28th approximately 25 adult residents and their children gathered together for their first block party at Waterside Estates. The weather was perfect and the breeze made it even better. Getting to know each other and sharing stories was fantastic. All agreed to make this the first of many block parties and even plan to have "dinner out" nights for the adults. For more photos of the event, click on this link... http://www.georgesepe.com/lake-brazos-block-party/2008/july-2008.html

Lake Project...Looks like the lake project is coming to an end. It appears that all the block have been laid and that the "cleanup" process is underway. It appears that earlier estimates of 4-5 months for completion were very much overstated. Unofficially, I found out that it all cost $1.7 million dollars.
In addition, a lot landscape is being graded and grass seed is being sprayed and the broken block is disappearing!"
Pick It Up...Sometimes I find the nuisance Chronicle marketing newspaper on my lawn or along the curb and I know I already received my issue. I pick it up and put it into my rubbish pail. I don't wait for it to blow down the street to my neighbors. Sometimes the recyclibles (especially milk cartons) fall off the garbage trucks and I pick it up. What do you do...?
If we all do our part and pickup the trash blowing around, the neighborhood will look a lot cleaner."
Block Party...The First Annual Lake Brazos/Hawkins/Palestine Block Party is being held this Saturday, the 28th. This year 15 families are participating in the camaraderie, food fest and playtime. Next year will be even better. Did you sign up...?"

"Choral Group...Testify is a large community Christian youth choir of 100+ youth from 8 different churches and 9 different
Sr. & Middle high schools in the Mooresville, North Carolina area. This is their first tour out west. This is NOT your classic church youth choir. Their concerts are powerful and engaging musicals. The singing is phenomenal and the drama that ties it all together is hilarious and pointed. This is an hour you will not want to miss. Testify will be singing Sunday morning, June 22nd, 10:30 am, at Travis High School (the current home of The River church)."
"Advertise...Just a note to all residents of Waterside Estates to remind you that we will put up notices for your clubs or activities in "Happenings" free of charge. Just click on the email address below and send us the information."
"Lake...Looks like the Lake project is really moving along. From my perspective, I'd say it was approximately 80% complete. What do you think...? Let me know by clicking on the email address below."

Lake Rework
Section One of the Three Sections of the lake (Detention Pond) restoration has begun as evidenced by the orange vinyl fencing which is required by the insurance company as a safety feature. Additionally, there is an area of metal chain-link fencing which will be used to store equipment and materials. The contractors are trying to have as little of an impact on the area as possible. Check out the link here (pdf) for some more information and photos

SUCCESSFUL "GARAGE SALE"
On Saturday, April 19th, approximately 25 residents laid out their wares for sale at our first Garage Sale of 2008. From all indications, it was extremely successful. Any number of families got together and held community sales. Unofficially it sounded like children's clothing was a big seller.
SHAPE UP YOUR CURBSIDE TREES
Many residents have curbside trees that overhang into the street and sidewalks. Here are some maintenance steps that will help your trees' growth; (1) trim off all those small "sucker" branches (2) if the branch does not extend out at a 45 degree angle or more, cut it off…especially if it is growing down (3) the trees are not "weeping willows", trim off those long overhanging branches and allow the branch to get stronger.

Any animals picked up in the neighborhood or surrounding area are back at the Animal Control center after about 3pm everyday. It is best to go in and register immediately if your dog goes missing, then stop by daily, or call to check it out.
If animals do not have tags, they are put down after 3 days (and remember, your loving pet may have lost its tags).
Animals with tags are put down after 10 days. Animal Control will attempt to contact you (remember to keep the information on your pet's tags current and correct).
Animal Control picks up 400-600 animals per month, and respond to calls to their phone number only. They do not "patrol" neighborhoods looking for strays.
They often have some really cute ones there, if someone wants to adopt.

TRASH SERVICE CHANGE
By now each resident would have received a letter from ECO Resources informing each resident of the change in Waterside Estates trash service. Starting January 2, 2008 the residential garage collection services will be WCA Waste Service and billed by Fort Bend Municipal Utility District No.118 (Ft. Bend MUD #118).
WCA Waste Service will be sending a letter detailing the process of receiving a new 90-gallon roll-on waste container and a recycle bin. Trash collection days will remain on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Republic Waste will pick up your present roll-on waste container and recycle bin on their last collection day, December 29.
WCA and Republic Waste will coordinate between the two companies any waste containers and/or recycle bins that might have been missed.
Please call the District’s utility systems operator, Southwest Water Company at 281.240.1988, if there are any questions about the District’s service or billing procedures.
By transferring garbage collection and recycling to the MUD 118, the Home Owners Association (HOA) was able to reduce the annual assessments by $70.00.
UTILITY POLES
The utility poles erected down Lewisville were a “surprise” to all of Waterside Estates.
The HOA was unaware of the utility poles until they were dropped on Lewisville. At that time the Developer, CenterPoint Energy, TXDOT, the County and our attorney were all contacted. It was learned that CenterPoint Energy had originally contacted TXDOT asking permission to erect the utility poles down the Grand Parkway (99). This request was denied because 99 is a controlled access freeway and TXDOT is not granting any permits to erect new utility poles on 99. There were countless days and telephone calls spent on trying to resolve this issue any other way than erecting the utility poles down Lewisville. Unfortunately, there was not another way.
LANDSCAPING COMPANY
Our new landscaping company will be Bluegrass Maintenance starting January 1, 2008.
The HOA is having the trees trimmed down Waterside Estates Circle and Waterside Village Drive starting the week of December 17 – 20.
JANUARY 16, 2008
The first HOA Community meeting of 2008 will be January 16 at Pecan Grove Country Club at 6:30 PM. There will be guest speakers, so please plan to attend.

WATERSIDE ESTATES HOLIDAY HOME DECORATING CONTEST
We’re sure you have noticed that the holiday flair for decorating homes here in Waterside has begun. Many of the residents have already transformed their house, yard, or front door into unique works of art ranging from the simple wreath on the front door to elaborate lighting and decorating of the entire home and yard. Artistically painted plywood figures of Santa, reindeer and elves are abundant as are the huge air-filled and colorful balloons.
Once again, this year, we want to recognize some of these beautifully decorated homes. Starting December 17th thru the 20th from 6pm to 10pm, we will be riding around the community selecting the best decorated homes. We will have two $50.00 Home Depot Gift Cards awarded to homes in each of three areas of the subdivision. The winning addresses will be posted on the website and a “winner” sign will be placed in their yard on the 21st.
The three areas of Waterside to be judged are: the North side of the Grand Parkway, the North side of the lake, and the South side of the lake.
The only rule is that "THERE ARE NO RULES."
Frequently check the website (www.WatersideEstates.com) for additional updates; or call Crest Management at 281.579.0761 for more information.
Be sure to keep your lights on!
Thank you,
Your Judging Committee

Website is Up and Running
During the past couple of months we have really gotten our neighborhood website up and running. If you or your neighbors haven’t yet visited it, please do so as soon as you can. The website address is www.WatersideEstates.com.
We now have lots of information that you can use on it.
And … as a reminder, you were notified by the HOA board that the old “Navigator” newsletter would no longer be mailed to every address in Waterside, but rather information would be posted onto the website for all to access in a much more timely manner. It was determined that very few residents actually noticed the mailed newsletters and fewer still recalled specific information provided in them, as evidenced by frequent phone calls to the HOA board members and Crest Management requesting information that had already been provided in the newsletters.
While most households in the neighborhood are “internet-capable” the board realizes that some residents are not, or may not be comfortable accessing our website on a regular basis for information. If you or any of your neighbors still wish to have a newsletter “mailed” to you, please contact Crest Management for details of how to make this happen.
Frequently Asked Questions - (FAQ’s)
Very soon, on the website will be a listing of the most often-asked questions of the board and the management company, along with answers to them. The list will be added to from time to time and should become a valuable tool for residents to use to find out about various issues. Examples will range from: When is trash/recyclables picked up to What should I do about a weed-grown yard on my street, and many more. Hopefully the FAQ’s will be loaded onto the website by the time you read this issue of the Happenings. We ask that you submit any other questions that you may have, and we’ll try to find the answers and add them to the FAQ’s.
Password Protection
Please note that there is a portion of our website that is Password Protected.
The information about the Password has been sent to you on several recent occasions by mail, and we don’t want to publish it here, as Happenings is available for anyone to see and read. If you don’t recall the Password information, please contact Crest Management and they will be happy to provide it to you. From time to time the Password will be changed, and all residents will be notified about it either by email or by regular mail.
READ ALL ABOUT IT!

... who lives in Waterside was chosen to play tennis for Team USA at the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, China. She played singles and doubles. Amanda is one of only 2 girls in the U.S. chosen for this tennis honor. The other girl is from New Jersey. Amanda left for Shanghai on September 26th and was there through October 12th.
